America’s Cup 2027: Naples, new rules, and a reset that might stick
The America’s Cup has entered a new era. The Protocol for the 38th edition confirms Naples, Italy, as host in July 2027 and creates an “America’s Cup Partnership” that gives all teams shared authority over key decisions. Major changes include a €75m team cost cap, batteries replacing human power for sail controls, a mandatory female sailor in the five-person AC75 crew (with an additional guest rider permitted), tighter sailing limits, and a Challenger Selection Series with group, semi-final and final stages. Entries open next week. Expect three preliminary regattas in 2026 and strong Youth and Women’s events alongside.
